Frequently Asked Questions
For Lashe & Brow
1. New to Extensions? Start Here! This is the title
1What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?
Eyelash extensions are single synthetic lashes applied directly to the natural lash, close to the lash line with a semi-permanent bonding adhesive. They are applied carefully, one by one using specially designed tweezers. The whole process normally takes 1 – 2 hours depending on how many lashes are applied.
2Can everyone use eyelash extensions?
Almost everybody can use eyelash extensions to increase the appeal and look of their eyes. The difference will be instant – your eyes will look sparkly and refreshed immediately! As the glue is applied directly to the eyelash, and does not touch the skin, there is very rarely any issue with allergic reactions.
3Do eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes?
No – we apply eyelash extensions taking special care to ensure that they are all applied individually and correctly to maintain your eyelash health. To ensure the ongoing health of your lashes, we highly recommend that you take the advice of the technician regarding the maximum thickness and length that would be appropriate long-term for your natural lashes. The eyelash extensions come off when your natural lash falls out, and so long as an appropriate weight extension has been applied, your natural lashes will grow through as normal. Please listen to the technicians’ advice about how long/heavy you should go if you have naturally thin or sparse lashes. Don’t try to remove the eyelash extensions yourself – as this could easily damage your natural lashes. The adhesive bond is extremely strong.
Inexperienced technicians or those who rush (beware nail salons who do not specialize!) are apt to apply lashes that are too heavy/clumped together which can definitely result in damaged lashes. We customize the lashes so they are the right weight and thickness, and apply them carefully, one by one, so that your natural lashes remain as healthy as ever!
4Can you be allergic to eyelash extension adhesive?
Like all cosmetic products, there are some individuals who may be allergic to this particular adhesive. Allergic reactions are extremely rare however, and subside normally as soon as the extensions are removed. If you have extreme latex/band-aid allergies, you may be at higher risk of a reaction. If you have had an allergic reaction to any eyelash extensions before (swollen, puffy eyelids and under eye area) we do not recommend getting lash extensions again – as it is highly likely you will be allergic again. If you do have an allergic reaction, you must seek medical attention and we will need to remove the extensions as soon as possible.
5Are eyelash extensions safe when pregnant?
Eyelash extensions are a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure – Lash Lab uses a high-quality, low fume adhesive which is manufactured specifically for cosmetic use near the eye, and the adhesive does not actually ever touch your skin – as the extensions are glued to the eyelash hairs. Allergic reactions to the adhesive are extremely rare. If there is an allergic reaction it is easily treated. However, we do not recommend that pregnant women who have never had eyelash extensions before test out the procedure during their pregnancy.
6Are the materials you use safe and high quality?
Yes – the eyelash extension adhesive we use is almost completely fume free, medical grade, and safe for your eyes – so no pain and burning! It is also very long lasting. The eyelash extensions used are the highest quality on the market, and are available in all sorts of lengths and thicknesses, customized to suit you! All equipment is sterilized before each use.
2. Care & Maintenance
1Can I wear eye makeup with my eyelash extensions?
Of course you can! Eyeliner and eyeshadow are ok. We don’t recommend that you apply mascara to your eyelash extensions, as this can cause them to clump together and may contain oils that weaken the adhesive bond on your eyelash extensions, so they will not last as long at all.
2How should I remove eye makeup?
You must use an OIL FREE makeup remover, as oil based removers will damage the adhesive and could make the eyelash extensions fall off prematurely.
3 Can I get my eyelash extensions wet?
The best thing about eyelash extensions is that you can shower, swim, and do anything else involving water! You will have beautiful eyes ALL the time, when you wake up, straight out of the shower, out of the pool. Just don’t rub them or use oily soaps and they will last a long time.
4How do I take care of my eyelash extensions so they last longer?
Do not wet them for 24 hours after application/infills so that the adhesive cures properly
Use only oil-free products, especially makeup remover
Do not rub them or pull at them
Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler
If exposed to chlorine, rinse off gently with fresh water afterwards
Gently brush them with your lash-wand
It’s best not to use mascara on them…ever!
Cleanse them properly 2-3 times per week (your lash tech will explain the proper way to clean your lashes)
Avoid steam rooms and saunas.
5Why do I need infills if they last up to six weeks?
The eyelash extensions fall out with your natural lash cycle – which is 6-8 weeks, so very gradually – just a few here and there as new baby lashes come through. After about 3 weeks you will start seeing little gaps where the old ones have fallen, and new ones are coming through – so at this point it’s a good time to get infills, so your lashes always look nice and full.
6What if I get eyelash extensions but just don’t like them?
They can be removed using a glue dissolver if you decide that they are not for you. But we’re sure this won’t be the case!
3. What to Expect
1Are eyelash extensions painful to apply?
Not at all! The eyelash extensions are applied directly to the eyelash, so there is no contact with the skin. It may feel a little unusual the first time, but once you get used to it, it should be so comfortable that you may drift off to sleep! Lash Lab uses high quality relatively fume free glue, which does not burn or sting, unlike cheaper products. People with extremely sensitive eyes or sinus problems may get some watering and slight stinging at the end, but this subsides within seconds.
2Will eyelash extensions irritate my eyes?
Nope – once your eyelash extensions are applied, they will feel just like your normal lashes – you shouldn’t feel any difference. The eyelash extension is bonded to the actual lash, not your eyelid skin, so it feels just like your normal lashes. One extension is applied to each lash individually, so your eyelashes can move freely. You should be careful not to roughly rub your eyes though, as this can damage the extensions could make them a little uncomfortable.
3How long do eyelash extensions last?
As long as six weeks – as the eyelash extension generally lasts until the natural lash falls out in its natural cycle. However it is advisable to have some infills applied approximately every 2.5 – 3.5 weeks (depending on how well you take care of them) to make sure your eyelashes always look fabulous, as by this stage some would have fallen out as new lashes have grown through. How long your eyelash extensions last also depends on how you care for them (i.e. by removing makeup correctly, not thrashing them with heaps of mascara, and not tugging/pulling at your eyelash extensions).
